What is the Gospel?

Many are confused about salvation because there are so many voices telling you what you must do to be saved. But God did not make salvation hard to understand. The Gospel is clear.

1 Corinthians 15:1–4 (KJV) tells us what the Gospel is:
Christ died for our sins, He was buried, and He rose again the third day according to the scriptures.

  • His death was for us. He paid the penalty our sin deserved.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23, KJV)
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8, KJV)
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23, KJV)

  • His burial proved He truly died.

  • His resurrection proves He is living, victorious, and able to save.
“I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore… and have the keys of hell and of death.” (Revelation 1:18, KJV)

Salvation is not earned. You do not work for it, and you do not add to what Christ finished.

  • “For by grace are ye saved through faith… not of works.” (Ephesians 2:8–9, KJV)

  • “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us.” (Titus 3:5, KJV)

  • “Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.” (Romans 3:28, KJV)

So what must you do to be saved? Believe on Christ.

  • “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” (Acts 16:31, KJV)

  • “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” (Romans 10:9, KJV)

  • “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13, KJV)

If you will turn from trusting yourself, your works, religion, or baptism, and trust Jesus Christ alone, resting in His death, burial, and resurrection, then you can be saved. Christ finished the work. You simply receive Him by faith.
